Hail Damage in Davis County?

Davis County roofs have taken a lot of hail. Most of the damage does not show from the driveway, and it turns into leaks months later.

After every big hailstorm, crews roll in from Texas and other states, knock on doors for a few weeks and leave. A Texas roof and a Utah roof are not the same roof. Ours carry snow for months, build ice at the eaves, take canyon wind and bake in high-altitude sun, and the details that hold up here are not the ones that hold up down south.

  1. Can you see it from the ground?

You can check most of this from the ground or a ladder at the gutter line. If you see any of it, call and we will get on the roof.

    • Dents in vents, flashing or the gutter apron
    • Shingles creased but still in place
    • Granule loss concentrated on one slope
    • Debris or branch strike marks on the field
  2. Who checks the roof?

We get on the roof. We check the vents, flashing and gutters for dents first, then the shingles, and photograph everything we find.

  3. How does the claim work?

You file with your insurance company. We give you the photographs and a plain description of the damage. On hail-damaged roofs, we work with your insurance to get the roof covered.

  4. Then what?

Once the claim is settled, the roof gets fixed properly, down to the deck where it needs it. A full replacement carries our 10-year workmanship warranty.

Roofing Runs in the Family.

A Utah roof needs a Utah roofer.

The owner learned the trade working for his uncle. 27 years on Utah roofs, the last 8 under the Hancock Signature name.

Family owned and woman owned. A family company that works like one, and the family answers for every roof with its name on it.

We are still here when the next storm comes through.

  1. Workers on a roof stripped to bare wood slats, debris trailer parked at the eave below

    We get on the roof

Not a look from the driveway. We walk it, check the decking, the flashing, the valleys and the ventilation, and take pictures of what we find.

  2. Damaged asphalt shingles with torn tab exposing mat, exposed nail and dark granule-loss patch

    You see what we saw

You get the pictures and a plain answer: what the roof needs and what it does not. If a repair will hold, we say so.

  3. Back of a brick two-story home during a tear-off, with blue tarps spread over the patio and plantings, a wheelbarrow and shingle bundles staged on the pavers

    Your property comes first

Tarps go over the landscaping and the drive before anything comes off the roof, and the site gets picked up at the end of the day. Hancock runs the job and answers for the work.

A magnet goes over the yard for nails, the container leaves, and we walk the finished roof with you.

A 10-year workmanship warranty

We have faith in the work. If something we did is not right, we come back and make it right. We are not going anywhere.

Residential and commercial

Asphalt, metal and tile on houses, and low-slope membrane systems like TPO on shops and warehouses.

We work with your insurance

On hail-damaged roofs, we work with your insurance to get the roof covered. We photograph the roof so the claim reflects what is actually up there, on hail and wind damage alike.

Where We Work

9 counties around Salt Lake City, covering 103 communities.

Salt Lake County

The valley floor and the benches above it, where most of our tear-offs are post-war ranch and split-level with two or three layers on.

Davis County

Bench neighborhoods under the Wasatch front take the wind coming out of the canyons, and the lap failures show up on the west-facing slopes first.

Weber County

Older Ogden housing stock with steep pitches and real attics, which is where ventilation and ice damming decide whether a roof lasts.

Box Elder County

Open farm country north of Brigham City. Long exposure, few windbreaks, and metal makes sense on more buildings here than anywhere else we work.

Tooele County

West across the Oquirrhs, where summer UV and blowing grit age a shingle faster than the same shingle ages in the valley.

Utah County

Fast-growing south end with a lot of newer construction, so the calls run to flashing details and builder-grade shingle rather than full tear-offs.

Summit County

High country around Park City. Snow load and ice dams drive the work, and the assemblies have to be specified for it rather than patched into it.

Wasatch County

Heber and Midway sit in a cold pocket that holds snow on a roof longer than anywhere else on our route.

Morgan County

Small canyon communities where access and weather windows shape the schedule as much as the roof itself does.

Straight answers

Questions We Get Asked

The answers below are the ones that come up on the phone most weeks. Anything else, call and ask.

Typical Utah roof failures to look for

  • Shingle laps working loose on west-facing slopes that take the afternoon sun.
  • Flashing at a wall or chimney that was sealed with caulk instead of bent and fitted.
  • Ice dams at the eaves where the attic is not venting.
  • Decking gone soft under a slow leak nobody could see from inside.
How long does a roof replacement take?

Most houses in this valley are a one to two day job once the crew is on site. Steeper pitches, multiple layers to strip and complicated roofs with a lot of valleys take longer, and we tell you which yours is before we start.

Do you work through the winter?

Yes, with judgment. Shingles need to seal, and in genuine cold that takes longer or needs hand sealing. Emergency work happens whenever it has to. Full replacements get scheduled around the weather rather than forced into it.

Will you tell me if I do not need a new roof?

Yes. Plenty of what we look at turns out to be a repair, and we say so. A roof with years left in it gets left alone, and you get the photographs either way.

What happens if you find bad decking?

We show you. The decking is only visible during a tear-off, so that is when soft sheathing gets found and replaced. We photograph it rather than just add it to a list.

How do I know when a roof is getting close?

Granules collecting in the gutters, tabs lifting or curling at the edges, shingles that look bare in patches, and daylight or staining in the attic. Any of those is worth a look.

Do you handle the insurance side?

On hail-damaged roofs, we work with your insurance to get the roof covered. We document the damage thoroughly with photographs, so the claim reflects what is actually on the roof.
